Debatable Decisions SPL – Week 10
It was a quiet time for the SPL’s referees with only three major decisions for us to look at. New judge Dave is back for his second week of decision making alongside our regular panel meaning that we’re back up to full strength with five judges pouring over the week’s incidents.
Hearts vs Motherwell
Higdon penalty shout
Robert – It seems innocuous, but Webster is definitely climbing on Higdon and goes through the back of him. Probably should’ve been given so the ref got this one wrong.
Gary – Nope, Higdon’s just stood there, no attempt to jump and all Webster has done is jumped, not using the man for advantage – Correct decision.
Dave – Not even close to a foul. Higdon goes down like a sack of tatties as soon as Webster breathes in his vicinity. Rotten from the big man, correct call.
Paul – The big striker has a case there, he is jumped on and prevented from challenging for the ball by Webster, an incorrect decision.
Simon – Higdon’s waiting for the ball to come to him and gets clattered into from behind by Webster. I can see why some would consider it soft, but I think I’d have given a penalty for this one.
Overall verdict: Incorrect decision.
Dundee vs Inverness CT
Inverness penalty
Robert – Davidson just stretched in too late. Obviously a penalty, the referee saw it and got the decision correct.
Gary – He’s caught the Inverness boy and it’s a clear penalty – Correct decision.
Dave – The Dundee defender doesn’t even mutter a word of complaint about the decision. Says it all really. Correct decision.
Paul – Clear penalty, Davidson takes him out the game, although he is blind-sighted, there is no contact on the ball and clear contact on the player.
Simon – There’s nothing more to add, really. A penalty as clear as they come.
Overall verdict: Correct decision
Dundee United vs Aberdeen
Russell penalty shout
Robert – A very good, correct, call from the referee here. The decision was almost as good as the tackle – excellent defending.
Gary – Fantastic challenge by big Anderson – Correct decision.
Dave – Replay angles aren’t great so I find it difficult to give a definite decision, but if pushed I would say Anderson just got the ball before the player, so no penalty.
Paul – Not for me, a great tackle.
Simon – Again, the boys have said it all. Great tackle from Anderson and never a penalty.
Overall verdict: Correct decision
